So I saw Black book tonight. It is really a well made film and it exposed the dark side of the days after the WWII. I am not talking about Nazi or concentration camp. I am talking about how people were treated if they found to be cooperating with the Nazi during their rule, especially women. It is true that some of them willingly worked for Nazi for self profit, but others being the way they were were out of pressure. It’s not justified to humiliate these people instead of giving them a fair trail.
Was Nazi bad? Yes, absolutely. Was everybody in the Germany army bad? I doubt it. As the movie shows, any one can be executed if he/she disobey the Führer. Were all alliance good people? Probably not either. So was there still a line between good and evil? Yes and no.
Yes because we need good. We need fairness, justice, righteousness and valor. Without them, we are nothing but savages. (Is savage bad? It’s another discussion.) No because nobody can define what is good and evil. For example, if I am an evil man, I have an evil intention for the whole world, but I’ve been doing charity my whole life. I have never committed any crime or wrong doing but I possesses a dark sinister heart. Am I good or bad? Nobody can say. What about a good man but always mess things up that end up costing people’s life? Is he bad or good?
Anyway, I strongly recommend people to watch this film. And I leave you with Ellis’s line in the movie:
“I never thought I would dread liberation day.”
