In the year 1984, Apple introduced Macintosh, it claims 1984 won’t be like “1984″. Very clever. I have never used a Macintosh before so I can’t judge it but from what I know about Apple, 1984 is just like 1984. For the past 25 years, Apple has acted like a big brother watching over all of its customers. Controlling what hardware goes into this piece of machine and funneling the use of it. Apple certainly did a better job than the big brother because it has convinced its customers that they are free to do whatever they want on this machine.
It seems like Apple is tightening their fist recently in its latest success story, the iPhone and the app store. Why the change of strategy? It was very good at controlling its customers. Well, google happened. Apple can’t believe their program is crappier than what the google has to offer. I am talking about Google Voice here. GV offers better usability than the native iPhone dialer and text messaging capability and on top of that, it made whatever service that AT&T offers seems worthless. If only Google has a wireless towers all over the country, the world would be a much better place. (Certainly, Google is also a monster as well, but it has been treating me very well so I’ll let it sly.) So Apple is banning the Google Voice app in their store and any 3rd party programs that uses Google Voice, but it only makes Google Voice more popular. I just heard that GV mobile a Google Voice app is offered for free on the jailbreaked iPhones.
Talking about app store, it has over 65,000 apps available. It seems like there are a lot of choices, but how many apps are actual useful? The approval guideline Apple implemented seems like limited its growth. Step back a minute and you’ll see that for the windows mobile community, the unofficial app store has been there since forever and there’s no approval guideline. And we all know Microsoft is very evil yet it allows everything to be installed on Winmo. Winmo can’t compete with iPhone OS but it still has my heart.
On a side note, Amazon is being sued after deleting “1984″ from a student’s Kindle along with his notes.
Finally, Blizzcon is coming up so I am leaving this photo from last year in hoping that there will be more successful cosplay in this year’s Blizzcon. And one day, I will attend the event. I promise.
